Related terms
The router pattern uses one classification step to send each case down one of several fixed paths, each with its own steps, rules, and owner.
When it is the right shape
When incoming work falls into distinct kinds that need different handling: a simple claim and a complex one, a routine request and a regulator referral. The classifier only routes; it does not resolve the case. Routing is automatic only above a confidence threshold the operations owner sets, and anything below it goes to a named person.
How it differs from model routing
Model routing chooses which model runs a step. The router pattern chooses which path a case takes. The insurance claims fast-track use case uses it to send each claim to the fast track, an adjuster, or the special investigation unit; the system never declines a claim.
